FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is colon hydrotherapy?

Colon hydrotherapy is a gentle cleansing process designed to support digestive wellness and the body’s natural detoxification process. During the session, warm, purified water is introduced into the colon through a specialized system to help release built-up waste and encourage healthy elimination.

Many clients report feeling lighter, less bloated, and more energized after treatment.

Why do people choose colon hydrotherapy?

Modern diets, travel, stress, and dehydration can all slow digestion and contribute to buildup in the colon.

Colon hydrotherapy may help support:

• Relief from bloating and gas
• Improved digestive regularity
• Reduced feelings of heaviness or sluggishness
• A digestive reset during wellness programs
• Overall gut health support

The colon is approximately five feet long, and over time waste can accumulate along its walls. Colon hydrotherapy gently encourages the body to release this buildup.

What does a colonic feel like?

Most clients find the experience surprisingly relaxing.

During the session, warm water flows in and out of the colon while your therapist gently guides the process. You may notice sensations of fullness or movement in the abdomen as the colon releases waste, but the treatment is generally comfortable and calming.

Many clients even fall asleep during the session.

Is there any odor or mess?

No.

We use the Angel of Water open system, which allows you to recline comfortably while the system hygienically carries waste away through the basin. The process is clean, discreet, and professionally managed throughout the treatment.

What should I expect after the treatment?

Most clients return to their normal activities immediately after a session.

You may experience additional bowel movements in the hours following treatment as the body releases remaining water. This is normal and temporary.

Many clients notice:

• Reduced bloating
• Increased lightness
• Improved digestive comfort

Some people may not have another bowel movement for a day or two as the colon resets.

Are there medical conditions that prevent treatment?

Yes. Certain medical conditions may prevent colon hydrotherapy unless cleared by a physician.

These may include:

• Severe anemia
• Aneurysm
• Severe cardiac disease or uncontrolled hypertension
• Crohn’s disease
• Severe ulcerative colitis
• Diverticulitis
• Gastrointestinal bleeding or perforation
• Rectal or colon tumors
• Incarcerated abdominal hernia
• Recent abdominal surgery
• Severe hemorrhoids with bleeding
• Prostatitis
• Epilepsy or seizure disorders

If you have any medical concerns, we recommend speaking with your physician before scheduling.

Will I lose weight from a colonic?

Colon hydrotherapy is not intended as a weight-loss treatment.

However, some clients notice reduced bloating or a lighter feeling afterward as the digestive system resets. The primary goal of colon hydrotherapy is to support digestive wellness and healthy elimination.

Does it hurt?

Colon hydrotherapy should not be painful.

You may feel a brief sensation when the small disposable tube is inserted, but this typically passes quickly. Occasionally the colon may contract slightly during the session, which can feel like mild cramping, but this usually resolves as the colon releases.

Your therapist carefully controls the flow of water to keep the experience comfortable.

How long does a session take?

The hydrotherapy portion of the treatment lasts approximately 45 minutes.

Please allow about one hour total for your appointment to include consultation, preparation, and changing time. Your first visit may take slightly longer as your therapist reviews your health history and digestive concerns.

How should I prepare for a colonic?

Hydration is the most important preparation.

We recommend increasing water intake the day before your appointment. A helpful guideline is drinking approximately half your body weight in ounces of water along with herbal teas, fruits, vegetables, or light soups.

It is also helpful to:

• Eat lightly before your appointment
• Avoid heavy or greasy meals
• Arrive relaxed and well hydrated

Your therapist can also provide personalized preparation recommendations if needed.

What if I’m constipated?

Colon hydrotherapy may still be helpful if you are experiencing constipation. Depending on your digestive patterns, your therapist may recommend a short series of treatments to help encourage regular elimination.

Each client’s digestive system is unique, so your therapist will guide you on the best approach.

How many colonics will I need?

This varies depending on your goals.

Some clients come for occasional digestive resets, while others complete a short series to address deeper digestive concerns or chronic digestive sluggishness.

Your therapist will recommend an appropriate plan based on your individual needs.

Will I be exposed during the treatment?

No. Your privacy and comfort are always respected.

You remain draped and covered throughout the session, with only the small treatment area accessed when necessary. Once the disposable tube is inserted, you are comfortably covered again and can relax for the remainder of the treatment.

Most clients quickly settle in and forget about the setup entirely.

Is colon hydrotherapy embarrassing?

It’s very normal to feel a little nervous before your first visit.

Our therapists perform this treatment regularly and approach every session with professionalism, discretion, and care. The system carries waste away hygienically, and the environment remains calm and private throughout the session.

Many clients tell us their only regret is waiting so long to try it.

Is colon hydrotherapy safe?

Yes, when performed by trained professionals using proper equipment.

At Heal Thyself Atlanta we use a professional Angel of Water system with purified water and single-use disposable components for each client. Your therapist carefully monitors the session and adjusts the water flow to ensure your comfort and safety.

Cleanliness, safety, and client care are always our highest priorities.

Can I have a colonic during my menstrual cycle?

For hygiene and comfort reasons, we do not perform colon hydrotherapy during menstruation.

We are happy to help you reschedule your appointment for a time that feels more comfortable.

Can I have a colonic while pregnant?

No. Colon hydrotherapy is not performed during pregnancy.

Colonic Aftercare

For the next 24 hours after your colonic we recommend the following:

Hydrate well Drink plenty of water, coconut water, or herbal tea. Eat light, nourishing foods Great choices include: • soups or broths • steamed vegetables • smoothies • quinoa or brown rice • fish, tofu, or lentils If you enjoy Asian food, coconut soup from many Asian restaurants is a great option — it’s typically dairy-free and can include protein or be made vegetarian. Avoid today • alcohol and caffeine • fried or processed foods • very spicy or heavy meals • gas-forming foods (beans, cabbage, carbonated drinks) • raw foods like salads or sushi, which can be too rough for digestion immediately after a colonic Rest & gentle movement Allow your body to rest today. Light walking or stretching is fine, but avoid intense workouts. Your next bowel movement may be delayed a day or two — this is completely normal.
